Do you treat someone with a physical disability differently?
Be honest.
A lot of people fall into many categories when seeing someone with a physical disability in a public place:
The category of trying too hard around them to prove to yourself and/or to others that you don’t treat them any differently.
The category of assuming that someone with a physical disability instantly means they are intellectually impaired as well, followed by treating them like they are retarded and/or a child
The category of not giving them enough attention and overting your eyes when you see them to prove that you don’t treat them any differently, being very conscious not to appear to be staring, a ‘don’t look at the disabled person – it’s rude’ mentality
Those who can only see the individuals disability
Those who are not intimidated by someone with a disability - who see the person first – and then the disability.
And whatever other categories I haven’t mentioned or come up with
My younger brother has Cerebral Palsy that effects him physically and not intellectually – he has seen a whole range of responses
