I went to see Katy Perry earlier this year at the Enmore in Newtown - and although it was a small location and I had to stand up, the performance was well worth it.  Katy sang, danced, interacted well with the audience and showed a vocal ability that surpassed what you saw in her music videos - and she played the acoustic guitar to boot adding some new songs and some covers of old in addition to the songs on her album.  By the end of the concert - my legs were tired from standing up so long - and there were only two costume changes throughout the performance - but I came out feeling satisfied - knowing that it was well worth it.

Britney on the other hand - I saw recently.  At a large concert stadium in Acer Arena.  My tickets were over priced, I could barely see what was going on, the supporting acts were better than Britney. She didn’t sing at all, there was one ballad that she may have sung but I couldn’t be sure.  Her dance moves were stiff and lacking in passion.  She seemed like she was at a rehearsal and not a live performance, her heart just didn’t seem to be in it.  The most interaction with the audience she had was ‘Hi Sydney’ at the start, and ‘Bye Sydney’ at the end.  I was more interested in seeing more of the back-up dancers than I was in seeing her.  I left feeling like I didn’t get what I came there to see.

Why does this happen?  Why do some performers give it their all - while some don’t bother?

Katy Perry hasn’t been around for as long as Britney - is there a point in a performers career where they just don’t seem to care?

If someone was lip-synching would you feel ripped off?

Is it the status of the performer that you have come to see - or is it the performance that they bring to the stage?
