In the past part of becoming a serious adult was to stop playing games. There is a rise in the current generation to preserve that inner-child and embrace it and have gaming consoles that are suitable for all ages, acknowledging that that sense of play and imagination and success in mastery and discovery is a drive that is a part of ourselves throughout our lifetime.
I bought my first Nintendo 64 console when I was twelve with my birthday money. My male friends were surprised that a girl would want to play on a gaming console and my female friends happily obliged in showing them that it is not just a boys toy but to be enjoyed for both girls and boys. Later I got the Nintendo Wii and most recently the Nintendo DSi. Both consoles being considered “female-friendly”. Granted I don’t like strictly shoot-em-up games that have no storyline, but I am also able to play games that are not gender-specific and enjoy them, I don’t consider all my games to be ‘girly games’, with one exception here and there. But overall my games are no different to a lot of other Nintendo players.
What do you think about female gamers?
